Can you introduce yourself and let us know a bit about your family?
I’m Meghan! Co-owner of Dandelion Kids. I am married to Colleen’s brother, Sam. We have three kids, June (4yo), Lane (just about 3yo), and Mary (1wk). We also have a very sweet dog, Jax, that is a husky/shepherd/elkhound mix
What do you do for work?
In addition to running Dandelion Kids, I work full time as a nurse at children’s hospital. I’ve worked there for 8.5 years. The first 7 years I worked inpatient on the oncology and bone marrow transplant unit, but then switched roles about a year and a half ago and am now a nurse coordinator for the allergy and pulmonology outpatient clinic.
What does a typical day in your life look like?
There is no typical day in the life over here. Between working at the hospital, working at the shop, and being home with the kids the days are extremely variable. Days home with my kids are my favorite, and most of those days include lots and lots of crafting, something outdoors, and an extreme amount of chaos and coffee.
What is a hobby or passion outside of parenting that brings you joy?
My greatest hobby is picking a neighborhood and walking all over it with a friend, drinking fun drinks and chitchatting. I’ll do it with or without kids, I’ll do it for 30 min or 4 hours. I love walking and chitchatting.
What is something that has made your parenting journey easier? (A product, mindset, or piece of advice, etc.)
Just give in to the chaos. Chaos is funny and it won’t last forever. Someday the house and life will feel very tame and controlled, but the next two decades are not that day.
What is a piece of advice you would give to a new parent?
If you decide that something is important to you, you can make it happen even with the obstacles that come with having kids. Fitness goals, business goals, social goals- they are all still possible, and possibly even more important to reach for now.
What is your favorite baby product that you’d recommend to a girlfriend expecting their first baby?
Definitely the baby bjorn bouncer and the dock a tot. They are by far the most used baby items that we own and the quality is great- still going strong three babies in
What is a book/show/movie you recently read/saw that you loved?
The Last Romantics. I read it almost a year ago but I still think about it sometimes. Heart warming and heart wrenching at the same time
What is your coffee order?
Always a latte with an extra shot- I usually just pick whichever flavor speaks to me that day
What are a few other local small businesses you are inspired by?
Forage– the products are awesome and Natalie rocks
Thai Terrace– we used to live in Swissvale and since moving to the south hills this is the restaurant we miss the most- I dream of their noodle dishes
Carnegie Coffee Company– great coffee, kid friendly, easy parking
